Rapamycin, mTOR & the biology of aging

What research into mTOR inhibition can tell us about immune function and healthy aging.

Conceptual illustration of rapamycin research

What the research says

A randomized trial found that the mTOR inhibitor everolimus improved responses to influenza vaccination in older adults. Everolimus is related to rapamycin, but the drugs are not interchangeable. This result concerns immune response, not an established extension of human lifespan.

What it doesn’t tell us

A short-term immune outcome cannot establish long-term safety, disease prevention, or longevity benefits. Rapamycin use for healthy aging remains investigational.
